Some users faced issues such as the update freezing at random percentages, or even going through, only to say that it failed after you restart your device in the end. This can be annoying as users who have committed to the latest version of Microsoft’s operating system have done so knowing that they will have timely updates that will fix any possible bugs and errors with the OS.

The solution for those that are unable to install the update is as simple as logging in as an admin. Follow the steps in the method below to be able to install the update.

Method 1: Use the Media Creation Tool by Microsoft

The Media Creation Tool is used for two purposes, one is to create bootable CD and USB for installing Windows on your computer, and the other is to upgrade your Windows 10 device to a newer build, as well as install any updates. Using it, you can install the update that is otherwise causing you a headache. You can download Microsoft’s Media Creation Tool from its official website, and install it on your computer.

Method 2: Login as admin and install the update

Having a limited user account can lead to an inability to install software, as well as updates such as this one, and having administrator privileges solves this. However, not all users have such privileges, and some will need to enable that administrator account first. Fortunately, Windows 10 has a built-in elevated Administrator account you can use for such situations.

Option 1: Via an Elevated Command Prompt

Option 2: Via the Local Users and Groups Manager

Note that this option is only available for users of the Pro and Enterprise editions of Windows 10.

Option 3: Via the Local Security Policy

Note that this option is also only available for users of the Pro and Enterprise editions of Windows 10, like the previous one. Whichever of the aforementioned methods you opted for, you should now be able to log in with the Administrator account of Windows 10. Run Windows Update again, by pressing the Windows key, typing Check for updates and opening the result, then clicking Check for updates. Windows 10 should now install the KB3176934 update without any problems. You might be required to reboot your device in the end – do so to save the changes, and you’ll be good to go. It’s a well-known fact that a number of users haven’t yet updated to Microsoft’s latest and greatest, due to issues such as this one. However, there are solutions to the vast majority of issues that you might face with Windows 10, and if you follow the methods described above, you will have no problems getting it to run properly.
