I investigate rumours of a Crash Bandicoot multiplayer game and breakdown what the game looks like (LINK BELOW). pic.twitter.com/0FN1n5KuDc — Liam Robertson (@Doctor_Cupcakes) November 20, 2022 In spite of all the hype, nobody has really seen Crash Bandicoot Wumpa League yet. We don’t know if the long-rumored game will ever see the light of day, but YouTuber Liam Robertson has put together a compilation of clips from the upcoming game, that he shows off in his video.
He says that the clips are from the game’s early releases and the original game, and that the final product might differ from the one shown in the video. However, the video gives us enough idea of what to expect from the game. Wumpa League is a team-based competitive multiplayer game where two teams compete to gather the most Wumpa fruit. Using specific attacks, such as a spin attack, players can try to steal the Wumpa fruit from their opponents. Also, if you cause enough damage or knock your opponent over the platforms, you can kill them outright. It appears that characters will be controlled in a way similar to previous single-player Crash games. It is also speculated that this game will run on Unreal Engine 4, the same engine used for Crash Bandicoot 4. Toys for Bob, the game’s developer began hinting at a new Crash Bandicoot project on social media after the release of Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time with a logo that included a Wumpa fruit encircled by red and orange stripes. Nonetheless, all teasers for the project stopped when Toys for Bob was reassigned to work on Call of Duty, leading many to believe the game had been cancelled. Fans learned that a huge number of employees had left the company after Toys for Bob confirmed in 2021 that they were working with Activision. The art director, executive producer, and designers had all seemingly left, leaving the whole art department in disarray. After a period of time, it was said that development on Wumpa League (also known as Project Lava) will continue. Earlier this year, Robertson provided a sneak peek at what the playable character list might consist of. It seems like we can play as a number of new characters, including Ripper Roo, in addition to Crash Bandicoot 4’s lineup.
— Liam Robertson (@Doctor_Cupcakes) June 9, 2022 While the gameplay footage appears to be pretty old in the trailer, it will be interesting to see what the franchise has in store for us, especially because this is a multiplayer game, which will be a significant improvement over the old single-player ones. Information on this topic is currently pending till next month’s The Game Awards. We will continue to keep you informed of any new developments until then.
